How to study in Denmark tuition-free

With just a few exceptions for certain study programmes, students coming from EU/EEA and Switzerland countries can pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree for free; this includes exchange programmes. Students who meet the following requirements are also exempt from paying tuition in Danish universities:

  • Students who have a permanent residence permit or a temporary one that can be upgraded to a permanent residence
  • Students who have a parent from an EU/EEA country, who is currently working in Denmark

If you’re a student from outside the EU/EEA, you should expect tuition fees ranging from 6,000 to 16,000 EUR/year. More specialised study programmes can amount to as much as 35,000 EUR/year.

Remember that private universities charge tuition fees to both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA citizens, and these fees are often higher.
