RUC was originally established in order to challenge academic traditions and to experiment with new ways to create and acquire knowledge. RUC cultivates a project and problem oriented approach to knowledge creation, because we believe that the most relevant results are obtained by solving real problems in collaboration with others.

About

History

Roskilde University is a Magna Charta Universitatum member institution. The Magna Charta Universitatum is a document that was signed by 388 rectors and heads of universities from all over Europe and beyond on 18 September 1988, the 900th anniversary of the University of Bologna.

Education

RUC’s pedagogical approach, using project and problem-based learning, is therefore the education model of the future. It prepares students for the future by encouraging them to tackle real issues in collaboration with students from other disciplines, in dialogue with companies and organizations outside RUC and in close interaction with our researchers. But the education model of the future must be constantly developed. We continually focus on development and quality in our education programmes and on always providing our students with a high level of academic training and expertise to match the requirements of the labour market.

Research

Research in the future will be open and participatory In a society where everyone is connected, the possibilities for sharing knowledge and ideas are constantly increasing. This is a major potential for university research. We believe that the most vital questions and the most relevant solutions occur in the interaction between universities, individuals, businesses and organizations. The experience possessed by others can be used to identify relevant problems and to qualify solutions in interaction with the university.

Student Life

Campus life

RUC is a meeting place where you become part of a strong community. It is a campus where ideas and free thinking are brought into play in the dialogue between people with different perspectives and nationalities.

An interdisciplinary approach and project work immerses the students in social and professional contexts that form lasting ties.

The culture at RUC is therefore characterised by a high degree of openness and room for many different positions. The core of RUC’s culture is freedom of thought, democracy and tolerance.

Sports facilities

Life at the university is more than attending classes and conducting research. On campus there are many facillities for sports and social time together, indoors and outdoors.

Two multi courts, soccer, disc golf course, nature trails along lakes, streams and fields, a gym, innovation workshops, kitchen gardens, a student house, a canteen, sofa lounges, a cinema, etc. are all places to meet for social moments.

Student clubs

There are many clubs that you can choose to engage in, from nature conservation to choir to robot building. And you can create your own club - perhaps an evening of ignite-speak, build-a-city garden or performance poetry.

The hippie university
Anonymous rated 5 out of 5 stars
My fellow students are open-minded. I've truly felt part of a broader community, where I've been able to express myself freely - allowing my critical mind to blossom. One minus is its anarchic administration. It is a hippie university, after all.
