The faculty was founded in 1965. It has four departments located in the Mattilanniemi and Ylistönrinne campuses. Roughly 2300 students are enrolled in the faculty. The number of staff is about 560.

Each semester begins with an orientation programme.
The orientation programme is designed to help new international students settle in and get to know each other, the University and the City of Jyväskylä. It is recommended that all new international students take part in the programme as it gives valuable information on studying and living in Jyväskylä. The orientation is organized jointly by the International Office and the Student Union.
Student apartments are located within walking distance or a short bus ride away from campus.
University Library offers students vast printed and electronic collections. Course books and other related literature of Mathematics and Sciences is located mainly at the Ylistönrinne campus library and Mattilanniemi campus.
Library offers as well information research services and education and counselling services.
IT Services of the University offers different kinds of services for the students, including email and computer classes.To utilise these services you will need a username and a password.
Student Union of University of Jyväskylä is our University’s students’ interest and service organisation. Student associations of the Faculty of Mathematics and Science are Syrinx ry (Students of Biological and Environmental Sciences), Otsoni ry (Students of Environmental Science and Technology), Radikaali ry (Students of Chemistry), Ynnä ry (Students of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technology) and Tiltti ry (Students of Statistics).
