The Bartlett was born with a radical streak in its veins. In 1841 it became part of University College London, whose founding principles proved to be a turning-point for education in Britain.
We operate at the leading edge of a number of distinct fields, from architecture and planning to energy and development in the global south. Our departments offer unrivalled opportunities for collaboration and innovative approaches to the challenges facing the built environment.
The Bartlett offers an exceptional range of study and research resources, and technical facilities that are the envy of other universities. Some of them, such as the Lighting Simulator and The Bartlett Library, are valued by the wider built environment community, with consultants and external specialists regularly putting them to use.
The Bartlett aims to tackle the most challenging research issues within the built environment.
These are some of the most pressing global challenges of our day, from sustainable economic growth to urban poverty, to reducing carbon emissions.
Through our distinctive cross-disciplinary approach, we are uniquely placed to address these issues at local, national and international levels.
Our focus is on projects that have impact in the real world. We seek to make the built environment better for everyone with multidisciplinary research that is global, innovative, responsible and relevant.
