The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria was founded on June 22, 1993.
The state of Upper Austria, the city of Wels and the market town of Hagenberg were designated as members of the sponsoring association for the preparation of the establishment, maintenance and operation of technical college courses in Upper Austria.

There are several points that contribute to my great time at this study programme. First, the class consists of students from various backgrounds which makes classes very engaging and interesting. You learn so much from each other and most of us became very good friends outside of the university. Second, the professors bring years (and many of them decades) of real-life experience to the courses they teach. The shared content is a perfect mix of theory and their actual experience of how this content is applied in the industry. Lastly, I want to point out that I could apply most of the content I learned to my work life. I did not start my job with the feeling of being a freshly graduated student who now needs to learn how things are done in real life, but through the very practical training as well as the experience from the professors, I felt very well prepared for my professional career.
This university offers an excellent learning environment, and its Bachelor in Artificial Intelligence Solutions stands out for its strong alignment with current industry needs. The program combines up-to-date theoretical knowledge with a clear focus on practical, hands on experience. What makes it particularly valuable is its emphasis on real-world applications, allowing students to build relevant skills and gain confidence in applying AI concepts beyond the classroom. As a result, graduates are well-prepared to transition into professional roles and contribute effectively from day one. Another major strength of the program is its outstanding teaching staff. The instructors are highly knowledgeable in their fields and demonstrate a deep mastery of the subjects they teach. Their ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively creates a supportive and engaging learning environment.
Although the campus is not located in a major city, it is still easy to reach by car and public transportation. In fact, the calm surroundings improved my overall study experience. I especially appreciated the welcome week at the beginning of the program, as it made it much easier to get to know other students than expected. From the start, I also experienced a positive relationship with most professors, which was a good balance of mutual respect and enjoyable interaction. The first two semesters of my program provided a strong academic foundation and covered all essential content needed for further studies. One of the highlights of my studies was the semester abroad in the third semester, which contributed significantly to my personal growth and created some of my best memories so far. In addition, further international experiences were actively encouraged and well supported by the program. The only aspect that could be improved is the overall organization of the study program. At times, things felt somewhat disorganized, which caused occasional frustration. However, this did not significantly affect my overall positive experience.
There are several accommodation options are available including renting a flat and dormitories. The university helps students finding an accommodation and related information.
The university has libraries in each campus. All the libraries are connected to an electronic search service where students can search for related data.
The university has a strong IT support including Levis, Moodle, email system, EduROAM and much more.
Healthcare facilities are off campuses.
All the campuses are either in city center or in walking distance. Campus buildings are mostly in one place. The ones that are separate are in walking distance. Each campus has a canteen inside.
As a balance to studying, the sports club ’FH OO Sportsteam‘ provides students, alumni and staff with a wide range of opportunities to practice sport. There is something for everyone from yoga to triathlon at a range of different levels.
From a crazy boat race to a cell phone throwing contest, from a student party to a solar car challenge – the FH Upper Austria and its students plan entertaining events that make campus life more lively.
There are 8 tertiary education establishments in Upper Austria and the student life in the campus cities Linz, Hagenberg, Steyr and Wels is as multifarious as one might therefore expect. Even if students do not study together, students from different universities often party together.
