Education
The educational approach of the School of Business and Economics (SBE) revolves around small-scale teaching methods supported by an electronic learning environment, a portfolio of international study programmes and strong incentives for top-quality research.
All degree programmes make use of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with an emphasis on skills development – problem-solving, group work and self-directed learning – to prepare students optimally for the European and international knowledge society.
Research
SBE research is challenge-driven. Our School provides a home to researchers working in disciplines ranging from business and economics to sustainability and governance, to address the complexity of societal challenges using multidisciplinary approaches.

Services
Student services
- The Programme Committee plays a major role in educational quality assurance and improvement within SBE. Consisting of students and academic staff, it is an independent body installed by law to secure the position of the student.
- The Programme Committee is asked by the SBE Board or the Educational Institute (EdIn) for consent on some educational matters like the EER, and can issue advice, solicited or otherwise, on other issues.

Sports facilities
UM alumni are entitled to a UM SPORTS membership for the rest of their lives, and can thus make use of the sports facilities at Maastricht University. Continue to join your favourite group class, training or course, stay in shape by working out in the gym or join the UM Cycling or UM Running community.
