VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava has long tradition in high quality engineering. Provides tertiary education in technical and economic sciences across a wide range of study programmes and courses at the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral level.

Master's Programmes



The University of Ostrava was founded on 28 September 1991. Its origins can be traced back to 1953, when a training college for future primary school teachers was opened in the nearby town of Opava.


Our study programmes stand on a tradition going back more than 165 years, but reflect current, state of the art technologies and the needs of industry and society. Education is organized within 7 Faculties and 3 All-University Study Programmes.


Research and Development are integral to the activities at VŠB-TUO. Our focus on applied research and close cooperation with industry informs the teaching activities at the University, ensuring relevance in a dynamic international scientific environment.

Student services

International student Contact Point is a central office offering wide variety of services to students. Contact Point is a student’s dedicated advocate, offering a single place to go to help solve problems as well as to realize opportunities on both the campus and the community at large, including assistance with visas, accommodation, acquisition of medical assistance and a variety of other issues. 

Housing services

Buly Aréna hotel offers a pleasant accommodation for excellent prices in fully equipped modern suites with LCD television, satellite, free Wi-fi, bathroom facilities and 24 hour reception service. Our hotel guests can visit free of charge the aqua park, fitness centre with certified trainer, use the car park with camera monitoring, kids playroom and modern outdoor playground. 

Library services

The Library provides access to the information resources required by members of the University for learning, teaching and research. There is a wealth of material to support learning and research, both print external link and electronic. Many resources are accessible from off-campus via the Internet.

ICT services

The University campus has wifi throughout, public computer terminals and internet centers, and an online system for access to course registration and scheduling, as well as daily ordering of lunches and dinner in the cafeterias.

Campus life

  • Ostrava is the third largest city in the Czech Republic with population over 300 000 inhabitants.

  • The Leoš Janá?ek International Airport Mošnov is only about 30 km from Ostrava.

In collaboration with Nanotechnology Centre of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, an accredited analytical laboratory no. 1611 by Czech Accreditation Institute, IET analytical aboratory is entitled to perform accredited analyses according to ISO 17025 in air matrices for the following groups of analytes: Polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), Volatile organic compounds (VOC) and organic compounds in range of C10-C40.
