History
Since its founding in 1919 as the University of Minnesota School of Business, the school has grown, changed names, and moved locations, all while maintaining a continued commitment to excellence. This evolution has been helped through the generosity of many business partners, most notably Curt Carlson and Herbert M. Hanson, Jr.
Education
The University of Minnesota conducted a national search for dean of the Carlson School of Management this year. A search committee was named by the executive vice president and provost. The University engaged the national search firm Korn Ferry to assist the search committee in the recruitment and screening of candidates. As a result, Jamie Darin Prenkert was appointed the next dean of the Carlson School effective July 3, 2023 and pending the Board of Regents’ approval at its December meeting.
Research
Despite exponential growth in recent decades of research papers and patents, a new Carlson School of Management study published in Nature suggests science and technology are becoming less disruptive. The findings have generated media coverage worldwide, appearing in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Economist, El País (Spain), ChosunBiz (South Korea), Le Monde (France) and more.
