Elmira College, co-educational since 1969, is one of the great, small colleges of the nation and was the first institution of higher learning in the world founded as a college to award baccalaureate degrees to women with a course of study comparable to contemporary men’s colleges. For this reason, Elmira is characterized in most histories of higher education as “the mother of women’s colleges.”
Classroom teaching is a rewarding profession that enables articulate, caring, committed, and effective educators to help shape the lives and futures of diverse learners in an ever-changing world. The undergraduate Teacher Education programs at Elmira College assist initial teacher candidates in developing the content knowledge, teaching skills, and personal qualities necessary to promote and support student learning in elementary, middle, and secondary school classrooms. With critical thinking, listening, and speaking as cornerstones, Elmira College’s Teacher Education curriculum is designed to equip candidates with the essential skills needed to plan, construct, and deliver compelling lessons.

The Office of Career Services offers a variety of resources to assist students in the career exploration and development process. Students experience personal and professional growth by utilizing the following services:
All first year students begin their Residence Life experience by completing a survey regarding their housing preferences. The survey includes questions about how you study, whether you’re an early or late riser, how neat you are, and many more. These questions help the professional staff in Residence Life house you with a roommate who seems like the best fit. Once you receive your housing placement you will notice that it is in one of two buildings: Anderson Hall or Columbia Hall. Descriptions of these specific halls can be found in the Residence Hall Section of the website. All of these buildings have double rooms, which contain desks, dressers, closets or wardrobes, and twin-sized beds
The Library is a great place to read, research, learn, collaborate, discover, and study. Our librarians and trained staff will help you find information, identify resources, and teach you to navigate and access the millions of resources that are available to you at your Library and beyond. Our electronic resources are available 24/7 from on- and off-campus.

Acres of brick walkways, fountains, iris gardens, and Collegiate Gothic buildings make this one of the nation's finest college campuses. The Philadelphia Inquirer described EC as the "picture-postcard perfect" campus. Elmira College people are even better.
