History
Franciscan University was born on December 10, 1946, a product of the optimism in the country that accompanied victory in World War II. Indeed, most members of the first class were veterans of the war and were making use of the GI Bill to pay for their education.

Franciscan offers a dynamic Catholic curriculum integrating faith and reason, in an environment in which students, faculty, and staff seek ongoing personal conversion in the power of the Holy Spirit.

An Explanation And A Laudation
I am a Chesterton Schools Network student. Recently, the Chesterton Schools Network has created an affiliation with the Franciscan University of Steubenville by which Chesterton Students can earn university credits in courses like PHL 211 Metaphysics and PHL 113 Philosophy of the Human Person. I am one of the students currently enrolled in this program of study. Thus, in addition to studying grade 12, I am also studying university-level curriculum. Although the programs are an optimal opportunity, there is a deficiency of guidance in navigating the course. Besides this slight shortage of instruction, these courses are marvelous. The questions it poses regarding humanity's relation to the physical and metaphysical realm are profound. Fostering a deep sense of justice, liberty, and society, these courses provide an excellent foundation of knowledge in philosophy.
