Hawai'i Pacific University

At HPU we believe that it is our responsibility to give back to the community and respect the land we live in. Students, faculty, staff, and the broader university community are encouraged to find experiential learning opportunities with community impact that perpetuates our Hawaiian values of pono, kuleana, and aloha.

About

History

In the 1960s, two small liberal arts colleges were founded by community members recognizing a need for private education in our newly formed state of Hawai‘i. In 1992, a picturesque Windward college merged with a downtown university, uniting the strength of two academically strong institutions.

Services

Student services

Hawai‘i Pacific University’s Career Development Center provides students and alumni with the necessary resources to be highly competitive individuals in the college-to-career transition. Recognizing that the global workplace is a forever changing environment, Career Development supports students to be prepared, adaptable, dynamic and resourceful, while embodying the values of Pono, Kuleana, and Aloha.

Housing services

Student needs will vary according to the individual course requirements and the nature of the disability. The university is not required to provide every accommodation that a student may request. Students should note that the requirements for accommodations for post-secondary education are different from the requirements for high school and that the accommodations themselves may differ. Accommodations are determined through the following:

  • Student’s Self-Report
  • Observation and Interaction
  • Information From External or Third Parties

Medical services

  • The Counseling and Behavioral Health Services (CBHS) department provides FREE and CONFIDENTIAL counseling services to current registered HPU students.
  • HPU students have access to on-campus health services during the fall and spring semesters.

Student Life

Campus life

HPU combines the excitement of an urban downtown campus with the serenity of a campus set in the green foothills of O’ahu’s Ko’olau mountains, and its aquaculture research facility, Oceanic Institute, borders the ocean. The main campus is located in downtown Honolulu, the business and financial center of the Pacific, and it is home to the College of Business and College of Liberal Arts.

Sports facilities

Hawai‘i Pacific University is proud to be expanding fitness offerings for students, staff, and faculty.  Whether it is having free access to a gym or taking a fitness class in between classes, the Campus Recreation program will keep improving options to engage as many people in enjoying these health benefits.

Student clubs

Being a member of a registered student organization (RSO) is an excellent way to meet new people from around the world and enrich your HPU experience. The active RSO's are listed here. If you do not see the perfect match for your strengths and interests, consider creating your own club!

Accreditation

Hawai'i Pacific University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and has a number of additional accreditations and memberships from nationally recognized groups.

Student Reviews

I have faith and hope that my dreams are not dead
Anonymous rated 4 out of 5 stars

I personally joined the university with high expectations of completing my studies and graduating after a given time, my studies began well and everything was going on smooth education was offered in a good manner where everyone appreciated, however due to lack of school fees I didn’t enroll to the next semester at the university I had to refer my study program and until...

Ups and Downs
Anonymous rated 3 out of 5 stars

There were some Professors who were exceptional and others who were not easy to work with. The distance from dorm to class was okay but it was a bit unsafe.

Money can blind you to empathy and reason
Anonymous rated 2 out of 5 stars

This university was extremely unprofessional and ill-prepared. The shuttle to get from campus to campus was often full or ran late which made it hard to get to class. The other campus was a 25-minute ride and there was no other way to get to and from. The cafeteria often ran out of food and had to improvise, and the options were extremely limited. There was no student...
