About

History

Since its founding in 1889 as a teaching college, SUNY Plattsburgh has had a strong history of meeting regional and statewide needs for higher education. It is also a major driver of the economic and cultural well-being of the community.

Education

SUNY Plattsburgh is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and authorized by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. The campus was reaccredited for ten years in June, 2012.

Research

Undergraduate research opportunities in biology are available with our faculty members. Students regularly travel to and present their research findings at regional, national and even international meetings.

Projects range in areas of interest from ecology to cell and molecular biology. Students who engage in undergraduate research gain valuable skills in experimental design, laboratory protocols and field studies. Such experience is highly advantageous to students applying to graduate school or entering into the job market.

Services

Student services

Academic Affairs builds our college commitment to student success through the curriculum and the classroom, through excellent teaching and staff support, and through scholarly research. This work is supported by our Center for Teaching Excellence, our Honors Program, our Institute for Ethics in Public Life, our Center for the Study of Canada. Further support is provided in Academic Affairs by Feinberg Library with its information and technology support, the office of Academic Advising and by our Learning Center. Our commitment includes fostering student preparation for the workplace or graduate school and for life-long learning.

Housing services

All students who require accommodations in housing as a result of a disability as defined by the ADA must complete the Student Housing Accommodation Request form and submit it to the Student Support Services Office for review.

Reasonable and appropriate accommodations depend upon the disability, the housing environment, and the steps necessary to create equal access for one's living situation. Requested accommodations will not be granted if deemed unreasonable or if alternative accommodations are available.

Students with qualifying disabilities under Section 504/ADA who are approved for housing accommodations under this policy will not be charged for such accommodations.
