About

History

In 1841, equipped with an enduring vision (and courage), Father Edward Sorin set sail from France to the new world to establish Notre Dame and St. Edward’s universities. For more than 130 years, we’ve carried his passion for educating all who seek to realize their full potential, regardless of social standing, spiritual path or ability to pay. And along the way, we’ve changed a lot, too.

Research deeply, travel widely and live fully. We know you have incredible potential, and we’re here to help you go further than you ever thought possible.

Services

Student services

At St. Edward’s, international students invigorate our learning and enrich our community. The many traditions, perspectives and experiences they bring to the hilltop strengthen our understanding of world cultures and events.

The International Student Services (ISS) Office supports and advocates for international students on campus. We advise on F/J visas, immigration regulations, life in the U.S., work authorization and more. ISS also sponsors activities and programs that foster intercultural sharing and learning.

Housing services

Students have a variety of living communities to choose from, each with their own distinctive personality. Visit each community's page to see the amenities available. Our room type definitions provide a helpful starting place to learn more about room types available in each community.

Library services

The Munday Library is the result of a $13 million donation from Pat and Bill Munday. Built over 10 months, it is designed to bring together students and faculty from all disciplines for creative collaboration and to encourage digital and information literacy. The library’s collections include a wide selection of books, scholarly journals, robust databases, and thousands of streaming videos.

ICT services

The Office of Information Technology supports St. Edward's in all things tech-related and works with students, faculty and staff to ensure campus hardware and software is working for them.

Student Life

Campus life

Perched on a hilltop overlooking Austin, our campus is a community within a community. On a clear day — and we have mostly sunny days — you will meet an incredibly diverse, kind, generous and approachable group of students. It's their wholehearted love of learning, and their respect for each other, that makes life here so livable.

Sports facilities

Students coming to the RAC to attend an academic class, meet a faculty member or coach, or other activity that is not recreational will still be required to provide proof of completion of their daily health screen and adhere to mandatory facial covering policy.

  • Recreation fitness center/weight room
  • Multipurpose fitness studio
  • Tech-free wellness lounge
  • Wellness seminar/co-working room
  • 6-lane 25-yard pool
  • Racquetball court
  • Gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, dodgeball, and other gym activities
  • Recreational locker rooms

Student clubs

Student organizations are a vital part of our campus community. By getting involved in a student organization, you'll have the opportunity to meet new people with similar interests, explore your passions, develop leadership skills, gain experience in your academic areas of interest, connect with faculty and staff, and make a positive impact to our local and global communities through service.

Accreditation

St. Edward’s University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Student Reviews

Hit or Miss
Anonymous rated 3 out of 5 stars

The university in general was pretty hit or miss. It was a lot more focused on grades and writing essays than actually learning. Though I did have some good professors in the mix. I think the university cared a lot more about the money given to them throughout the time there and after, rather than the students and setting them up for success.

I love this university and their interest in building people with character. They stress studying abroad as a means to understand the world and different ways of life.
