Christopher Newport University

Founded in 1960 as Christopher Newport College, a two-year branch of the College of William & Mary, we are in Coastal Virginia, in the city of Newport News. Christopher Newport gained independence in 1977 and became a university in 1992.

Christopher Newport provides outstanding academic programs, encourages service and leadership within the community, and provides opportunities for student involvement in nationally and regionally recognized research and arts programs.

The Center for Education Research and Policy (CERP) brings together researchers from across the university to address critical questions related to education, inequality and social change. Our mission is to conduct rigorous research on the most enduring issues for Virginia and the nation, and to use this research to inform educators and policymakers about best practices needed to advance educational reform.

The Center for Career Planning firmly believes that you get jobs by talking to people, so we create opportunities for students to connect with professionals all throughout their time at CNU and beyond.

Small class sizes and a well-rounded education

Small, liberal arts school in southern VA in the USA. I had small class sizes and felt that I got a great education and my professors got to know me which made the experience more personal.

CNU Political Science Graduate

The professors in the Political Science department as well as the Center for American Studies are an amazing group of teachers. They will push you to your limits in the classroom while having your back outside of it.
