Founded in 1960 as Christopher Newport College, a two-year branch of the College of William & Mary, we are in Coastal Virginia, in the city of Newport News. Christopher Newport gained independence in 1977 and became a university in 1992.

The Center for Education Research and Policy (CERP) brings together researchers from across the university to address critical questions related to education, inequality and social change. The Trible Library is the intellectual center of Christopher Newport University. We help students develop research skills and support the scholarly and personal growth essential to the study of the liberal arts and sciences. We combine the best of a traditional library with modern technology to create an interactive learning experience for the 21st century.
A Certificate of Immunization form, detailing immunization requirements and including a Tuberculosis Screening Form, must be completed and signed/stamped by a licensed health care professional. Students are required to receive the Meningococcal vaccine OR sign and submit a Meningococcal Waiver form to the Office of the Registrar for their file to be complete.

With modern fitness equipment in the Trieshmann Health and Fitness Pavilion, it’s a great place to work out. We also offer dozens of fitness classes, such as cycling, Pilates, body sculpt, yoga and Zumba.
From The Captain’s Log student newspaper to the Neuroscience Club to the Ultimate Frisbee Club, Christopher Newport boasts a wealth of student involvement on campus. The Office of Student Activities supports over 200 student clubs and organizations and provides resources, leadership training and event planning consultation for all students.
Christopher Newport is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award degrees at the baccalaureate and master’s degree levels. SACSCOC is one of six regional accrediting commissions in the U.S.
