History
Long Island University was chartered in 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, as a non-sectarian, co-educational, private university. By the fall of 1955, LIU Post had 14 faculty members and 219 students, appropriately nicknamed “the Pioneers.”
Education
LIU Post is the seventh largest private university in the country. The campus offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees which are registered with the New York State Education Department and are fully accredited by the Commission of Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. With special accreditation from over 10 different professional and academic organizations, you are assured of a quality education with top-notch faculty, small classes and extensive student services.

Housing services
Eight campus residence halls of over 1,200 students are tailored to individual needs, from quiet study to semi-private suites. Living on campus allows you to become totally immersed in college life. You will enjoy the freedom of living on your own, while meeting new people and making lasting friendships. Living at LIU provides affordable housing rates, with utilities and laundry included. In addition, several meal plan options are available that can be used at on-campus dining locations.
Library services
The Library is recognized as one of the best resources on Long Island and is a great place to find information on any topic. Its highly qualified staff is famous, even at other universities, for exceptional service. The library is part of a 2.8 million volume University-wide system, and accommodates several special collections. The library is also home to the Center for Business Research.
ICT services
- The computer labs which dot the campus provide places for students to do homework, explore the Internet, or connect electronically with friends.
- If you live in the residence halls, you can connect to the University’s network using your own computer.
Medical services
The LIU Post Center for Healthy Living provides psychological counseling, nutrition counseling, and health services to current students. We have licensed mental health professionals, nutritionists, and a registered nurse available to provide consultation and support. Our goal is to assist students in maintaining their health while navigating and working toward success academically and personally.
Campus life
At the turn of the 20th century, opulence spread on the North Shore of Long Island redefining the area as the "Gold Coast". Wealthy industrialists, bankers and entrepreneurs built their lavish estates here, including the daughter of C.W. Post - Post cereal magnate. LIU Post uniquely resides on the 307-acre estate formerly known as Hillwood.
Sports facilities
The Recreational Sports Department serves as a vital and integral part of student life at LIU Post. The Department is committed to providing the finest programs, services, facilities, and equipment to enrich the University learning experience and to foster a lifetime appreciation of and involvement in wellness and recreational sports and activities for our students, staff, faculty, and alumni as well as members of the local community.

With more than 60 active student clubs, organizations, and athletic teams, there is something for everyone at LIU Post.
Our Office of Campus Life seeks to educate, challenge, and cultivate students by providing services and promoting programs that encourage student involvement, and offer both personal and academic support for student growth.
