At Reading we pursue an ambitious and innovative enterprise agenda. Over the last five years we have enjoyed considerable success in collaborative research partnerships, delivering over 1200 projects. Other services in demand are consultancy, technology transfer and intellectual property licensing. Enterprise also taps into our expertise via government assisted Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs). Our close links with business and industry are evident right across the University.

The University was established in 1892 and originated as a University of Oxford extension college. Today, it is ranked in the top 200 universities worldwide (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016/17 and QS World University Rankings 2018) and holds a world-class reputation for the quality of its teaching, research and links to business. Additionally, it has recently invested in a state-of-the-art campus in Malaysia.

Research at the University of Reading aims to solve some of the biggest problems facing people today, based on five themes: environment, food, health, heritage and creativity and prosperity and resilience. Working across continents and disciplines, our researchers explore ways to tackle climate change, improve human health, provide food security and understand human culture.

Student services

The University has a range of academic services to help you excel. From Study Advice and Maths Support to Peer Assisted Learning and Liaison Librarians.

There are a number of services available to all students, to provide help and support with any aspect of academic life. They can be accessed by one-on-one appointments, at regular drop-ins or via email and telephone.

Housing services

  • Whiteknights Campus

Our main campus is set in 130 hectares of beautiful parkland, so you’ll find plenty of places to relax during the day. The site has received seven consecutive Green Flag awards, recognising it as one of Britain’s top green spaces.

  • London Road Campus

The London Road campus has recently undergone a £30 million transformation. This historic site, one of the University’s original campuses, is home to the Institute of Education. It also features the Great Hall, which is used for concerts and graduation ceremonies, and a bar/café that serves hot and cold food.

  • Greenlands Campus

Home to one of Europe’s top business schools, our stunning Greenlands campus is situated on the banks of the River Thames near Henley. It features a fully equipped fitness centre, business facilities, a conference centre, accommodation and dining room. Greenlands is used by the University's Henley Business School as the base for its MBA and corporate learning.

Library services

The University Library and its staff can support your studies, providing you with access to information - online, multimedia or printed - and the skills to make the most of it.

ICT services

IT provides help and advice with using computer software and hardware.

  • On-line forms provide a quick way to apply for services.
  • Training in the use of common software is available from IT.
  • Open access PC and Unix workstation facilities are available on-campus.
  • The software list is a quick way to locate software on central computing facilities.
  • The University also provides options for storing files.

Medical services

The University of Reading enjoys international recognition for its expertise in many health and biomedical areas that are making essential contributions to our healthcare-related degree courses. We have a well-established network of clinical partners hosted on campus and regionally, including the Royal Berkshire Hospital and Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust, and together we have established the Thames Valley Clinical Trials Unit to help deliver impactful clinical outcomes from our scientific discoveries.

Student Life

Campus life

The popular and award-winning Students' Union organises a generous calendar of events including live bands, DJs and comedy nights. As well as bars, eating places, a games area and shops, it boasts a state-of-the-art nightclub, '3Sixty'. This is ranked as one of the top UK university entertainment venues.

Sports facilities

As a student you will have access to the extensive sports facilities on offer, both indoors and outdoors. On campus you will find courts, pitches and playing fields for a wide range of sports, as well as a fully-equipped sports centre with gym

Student clubs

The Union is home to a wide range of societies and clubs, all of which are run voluntarily by students. There are currently over 150 societies and sports clubs, which all students are welcome to join.
