We trace our origins back to 1892 as an extension college of the University of Oxford. Reading received its royal charter in 1926 and will shortly celebrate a century of university status. We are ranked in the top 200 universities worldwide (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 and QS World University Rankings 2024).
Reading is consistently one of the most popular higher education choices in the UK. My overall experience at university has been positive. I appreciated the diversity of courses and the opportunity to work on practical projects, which helped me develop both academic and professional skills. The learning environment was motivating and supportive, and it played a key role in my academic success, allowing me to be ranked as the top student of my promotion twice. Some professors are highly supportive and encourage critical thinking. However, there are areas that could be improved, such as better organization of schedules and more communication regarding administrative procedures. Additionally, providing more career-oriented support and internship opportunities would enhance the student experience. Overall, I would describe my experience as enriching, with valuable learning moments despite a few organizational challenges.
My academic studies is also related to agriculture, because on my undergraduate Iam studing in university of Rwanda at college of agriculture forestry and food science (CAFF) under department of Crop production here I gained more information about agriculture system and the way to increase agriculture production and also sustainable development of the farmers, on secondary level I studied ( Mathematics, Chemistry and biology). Here i gained information in living organisms where Crops are included.
I never liked the idea of studying at the university of Reading because I had heard they are too strict, worry students alot and their things are very intensive and it is expensive to study there. I finally ended up there because of family thinking I was coming to pass through, earn a certificate without enjoying school. Started lectures on 1st September 2025 and so far so good I know I have made the best choice. As a PGCE Mathematics student, I have had the opportunity to meet with other students on placement students and shared their experiences. I have also spoken with family and friends in other universities and we have shared experiences. It is intensive study in University of Reading. However, students come out fully baked for the job market. I cannot end this without talking about lectures and school facilities. Prior to my studies, I have visited more than 5 universities in the UK 🇬🇧. I can confirm the University of Reading sits amongst the top when it comes to infrastructure. They lack nothing. The ratio of lectures to students is very excellent making Lectures more accessible, very friendly and supportive. The cause is more interactive, very reflective and no student is left behind unless one chooses to. It is not only about teaching and learning, our mental health and social well-being is also being catered for by the universities and lectures. There are leisure activities to give us study balance. We have been taught time management which I have followed making me not have to do too much after lectures. This is my second masters degree cause and I truly can feel I have made the good choice of choosing the University of Reading and thanking my family a lot. If you are looking for a uni that will pass through you as you pass through, put Reading University on top of your list. One negative is, the school fees is very expensive however, the experiences are wealth it. Just 6weeks into my course and I am already being sort after by my placement school to join the department after my studies.

The University has a range of academic services to help you excel. From Study Advice and Maths Support to Peer Assisted Learning and Liaison Librarians.
There are a number of services available to all students, to provide help and support with any aspect of academic life. They can be accessed by one-on-one appointments, at regular drop-ins or via email and telephone.
We have a range of rooms available to suit different budgets, with both on-campus and off-campus accommodation and self-catered and catered options.
The University Library is the focal point of the campus - a 24 hour resource that has recently undergone a £ multi-million refurbishment. A comprehensive selection of online, multimedia and printed publications are offered, with spaces for both private and group study and a vibrant coffee bar in the atrium.
IT provides help and advice with using computer software and hardware.
The University Medical Practice provides access to general practitioner services. There is also a Dental Surgery. Both are available to staff and students. For emergency care and treatments requiring in or out-patient hospital appointments, the Royal Berkshire Hospital is situated less than a mile from the campus.
Our main campus is set in 130 hectares of beautiful parkland, where you’ll find plenty of places to relax during the day. The site has received 13 consecutive Green Flag awards, recognising it as one of Britain’s top green spaces.
The original home of the University has undergone a £30 million transformation. This historic site is home to the Institute of Education and Architecture Department. It features the Great Hall, which is used for concerts and graduation ceremonies, and a bar/café that serves hot and cold food.

The Reading University Students' Union (RUSU) is home to a wide range of societies and clubs, all of which are run voluntarily by students. There are currently over 150 societies and sports clubs, which all students are welcome to join.
