History
Founded in 1871, Shepherd University is a fully accredited, public liberal arts university located within 90 minutes from Washington, D.C. and three international airports. Named the only West Virginia public school on the College of Distinction list, Shepherd provides students an excellent education with smaller class sizes and the opportunity for a more personalized education.

A friendly environment
This university has a very friendly compass. The teachers were not very experienced but did their best. The overall curriculum and teaching methods were very good but there were limited internship opportunities.
Choose a small state school!
Shepherd is great for the price. In my departments, I have had a great experience as they are smaller and I can form more personal relationships with my professors. You are getting what you pay for though, so on-campus living can be a bit rocky.

Student services
Free confidential counseling is available on campus to all students. We focus primarily on short-term counseling. Referrals to outside agencies for more extensive or comprehensive services are also available; however, Shepherd University will not assume the cost for these outside services.
Housing services
Shepherd has a variety of on-campus housing, to include 12-month units, and meal plan options that are available to both undergraduate and graduate students. International students are fully integrated into the campus community and student life.
