The worldwide sports industry has a worth upwards of $700bn (US). In the EU alone it employs 1.7m people, and nearly a third of those work in the UK.
From marketing to coaching, media to finance and event management to hospitality, new roles and new opportunities are consistently presenting themselves.
The degree programmes have been designed with these industries and their varied roles specifically in mind. Media, marketing, finance, psychology, coaching and event management, amongst others, are all sectors of these industries that are growing at a rate never seen before. New roles are being created on a daily basis.
The approach sees traditional subjects, such as business and finance, taught in a format that encompasses the student’s area of interest – football and sport. We find that students with a passion for these sectors are more inclined to be interested in the end of year financial reports of a Premier League club than those of, for example, a motoring company or bank.
The Research & Journal Club is an excellent tool to remove the traditional barriers found on the roles of staff vs. students. The key ethos encouraged is how everyone in the room is there for the same reason, and is equal; whether that be a senior academic or a second year undergraduate student, we’re all there to share ideas and discuss research.
We provide two curricula; the academic curriculum which encompasses exams and coursework and the Employability & Enrichment programme – a journey of professional and personal development.
Our pastoral care and personal development programme ties in directly with career development, informing your work-related activities and ultimately leading to you finding the right place for you in the football, sports and entertainment industries. For those who wish to extend their studies at the end of their degree, opportunities to study at postgraduate will be encouraged.
