About
History
- 1912: The history can be traced back to the establishment of Dyeing and Weaving Academy (later developed into Textile Department of Nantong College) in 1912.
- 1972:Renamed as Shanghai Institute of Textile Science and Technology.
- 1981: Among the first batch of institutions to be authorized to grant doctoral degrees
- 1985: Renamed as China Textile University
- 1999: Renamed as Donghua University
Education
DHU is a multi-disciplinary university with a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs across a vast field of disciplines including engineering, economics, management, literature and art, laws, science, and education.
It has 13 colleges and schools, offering 54 undergraduate programs, 59 master’s degree programs, 30 doctoral degree programs, and 5 postdoctoral research programs, among which are 6 state key disciplines and 7 Shanghai municipal key disciplines.
Academic achievements have found applications in areas such as aeronautics, military science, new material, architecture, and environment protection. The number of valid patents ranks top 12 among Chinese colleges and universities.

Housing services
DHU has 3 International Student Apartment buildings with over 900 beds available on Yan'an Road campus. All the rooms are equipped with private bathroom, furniture, air conditioner, telephone, TV set, fridge and Internet jack. In the public areas, there are washing machines, microwave oven, hot and cold water dispenser and electronic stoves, common room, laundry service, self-study lounge and activity room. International Student Affairs Dept. of ICES is in charge of affairs of living in the ISAs.
Library services
DHU’s Library
1) Family of International Student: in the room 204 where you can read books, papers and journals (not for borrow), or use the internet, printing or photocopy service with the student card.
2) Other reading rooms: you can do self-study and reading with the student card.
Medical services
In accordance with the regulations from the Ministry of Education of China, and to better protect international students study in China, international students are required to purchase insurance, of which the validity should be enough to cover one's study duration.
Student Life
Campus life
Teaching & Research Building (TRB) and International Education Center Building (IECB) are two teaching buildings exclusively for international students on Yan’an Road campus. In addition, students can also get access to DHU library and other teaching buildings.
Sports facilities
In the Campus Stadium, there are rock-climbing room, table tennis room, dancing room, gym, indoor football and handball court, badminton court and synthetic-rubber race track.
Outdoor: There are also outdoor football court, basketball court and tennis court.
