In 1895, the City of Birmingham launched a major initiative to prepare its citizens for the future: the Birmingham Municipal Technical School. Over time, the institution expanded to become Aston University. A Valuable and Flexible Learning Experience
My overall study experience at the university has been very positive. I appreciate the flexible online learning system, which allows me to study while managing my personal and professional responsibilities. The courses are well organized, and the learning materials help me develop practical knowledge in business and logistics. I especially value how the program encourages critical thinking, research, and real-world problem solving. Another aspect I like is the supportive learning environment. The instructions are clear, and the resources provided help me improve my academic and professional skills. This experience has strengthened my confidence and prepared me for future career opportunities. Run by students, for students, we’re here to represent your views and make sure you get the most out of your time at Aston University. We currently have 18,000 students who we represent every day.
Housing services
Aston partners with Unite Students to provide award-winning accommodation on its small, friendly campus.
Aston Student Village is two minutes’ walk from all campus buildings and a short distance from the city centre. Accommodation includes communal study and social spaces, community activities and 24-hour security.
We guarantee accommodation for all first year students, according to accommodation policy criteria, and we offer accommodation support to all our students.
Library services
We are with you all the way to help you maximise your potential.
We support you by providing up-to-date books and articles online and in print, a range of study spaces across campus to suit your needs 24/7, which include laptops you can borrow and access to computers.
ICT services
We provide dedicated facilities, services and support for your digital needs. Its extensive IT facilities offer a range of networked software packages, database systems, modelling tools and computer-aided learning materials.
You’ll find WiFi study spaces around campus and My Aston Portal (MAP) hosts many of the digital services you need.
Medical services
The Welfare and Safeguarding team is comprised of registered healthcare professionals, meaning its Advisers are qualified, licensed, and experienced in providing mental health interventions, assessing risk, and collaborating with other teams to ensure holistic, student-centred support. Its team holds credentials in psychiatric nursing, social work, and psychotherapy.
Campus life
Its campus is centrally located on one site in the heart of the city of Birmingham and within walking distance of the many exciting features of the city.
With a fantastic network of buses, trains and trams Birmingham is one of the most accessible cities in the UK.
Birmingham’s central location makes it a great place to explore many tourist attractions. Bath, Ironbridge and the city of Oxford are relatively close, and great for day trips.
Sports facilities
Welcome to Sport Aston. The go to place to get fit, stay fit and most importantly have fun working out and enjoying the range of facilities we have to offer. Based on the Aston University campus, The Sir Doug Ellis Woodcock Sports Centre is home to a fully functional gym, multiple studios and courts alongside Birmingham’s oldest, but most stunning operational swimming pool.
Sport Aston also manages the Aston University Recreation Centre in Great Barr, which provides grass pitches for hire and a floodlit all-weather pitch. This is set across 48 acres of greenery providing beautiful views in a relaxing environment. The centre also has function rooms and break out areas for public hire.
Student clubs
We’ve got a dedicated prayer space and versatile rooms to support student-run clubs and societies. With over 140 amazing student clubs and societies to choose from, there’s something for everyone.
