Aston University received its Royal Charter from Queen Elizabeth II on 22 April 1966.1875
In 1895 the Birmingham Municipal Technical School separated from the Birmingham and Midland Institute. Dr W E Sumpner was appointed as Principal and classes were taught in chemistry, physics, metallurgy and electrical engineering.
At Aston we conduct high-quality research in all of our academic Schools: Aston Business School; Aston Medical School, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, School of Life and Health Sciences, and School of Languages and Social Sciences.

When you apply for Aston, you have the choice of either a room in a 5 bed or 7 bed flat. These flats are split between 3 buildings, each with similar facilities and proximity to Aston's main building and other campus facilities.
The Residence Tutors are volunteer postgraduate students who assist in ensuring the provision and delivery of an effective system of pastoral care and welfare suport for students resident in Aston Student Village.
