A Jesuit seminary was founded in 1588. By the beginning of the 17th century, it was already offering philosophical-theological lectures, thereby laying the groundwork for the establishment of a university.

The Physics Branch Library houses the printed copies of various journals relevant to the department. Students and employees of the Department's EMU can also access a large number of these magazines directly in their workplace in electronic form .
