Each Academic School is involved in a wide range of research, often with commercial partners. Applied research seeks to address the challenges faced by society today. For example – the University’s pioneering research in foot and ankle biometrics helped develop products for global brand Fitflop, while research on cooling the London Underground has been incorporated into a £500m upgrade of the tube system. London South Bank University provides advice and support for students on a wide range of non-academic and educational needs. Student support services run out of The Student Life Centre – and it’s also home to the Students’ Union, the Venue bar and Grads Café that makes it a hub for social activities. The University offers:

Housing services

LSBU has four halls of residence, giving students a safe and comfortable base. The furthest away from the University’s Southwark campus is a 10-minute walk. Students rent directly from the University rather than third party providers, so the University can guarantee clear tenancy agreements and all-inclusive rents that include: insurance for your personal belongings, internet access in each bedroom, on-site laundry facilities and 24 hour security.

International students attending LSBU for the first time are guaranteed accommodation if they meet the allocation criteria and apply to our Accommodation Office by 1 August.

Library services

London South Bank University libraries provide students with access to 800 study spaces, 58,000 electronic journals and databases and 250,000 books. E-resources can be accessed off-campus 24 hours a day. A team of experienced staff give expert support, including language support for international students. ICT services

The Learning Resources Centre has 400 networked workstations; Apple Macs; MS Office and specialist software; laptop loans; printing, scanning and photocopying. The Help Desk offers support and training across a range of IT and digital skills, such as: SPSS, NVivo, Sage Line 50 and Microsoft programmes. Students can download latest MSOffice and Anti Virus software to their devices for free.

Campus life

Few city centre university campuses in London are as compact as London South Bank University’s in the vibrant Elephant and Castle. The campus sits on the border of the city's Zones 1 and 2 for public transport. Elephant and Castle is an historic, vibrant and unique part of London, offering truly international cuisine and a short walk to the city's world-renowned galleries, theatres, museums and attractions. The University, like the city around it, is constantly developing. There is a major new campus development plans to transform the northern quarter of the campus by 2020.

LSBU Sports Clubs are open to complete beginners or more experienced players. The teams offer opportunities just for fun, but also all compete in the BUCS (British Universities and College Sports) leagues, representing the University against institutions from across the UK.

Student clubs

London South Bank University Students' Union (SU) is the centre of the student social scene and home to a number of services. The SU is home to more than 85 societies and 20 sports clubs, student media and charity fundraising. Specialist staff at the Union can advise on any course concerns and wellbeing concerns. 

Societies cover a broad range of interests, from the political to the purely sociable; there’s a Wine society and a Vegan one, a Gaming and Geeks society and an LGBT+ society (to name a few).

The Union is represents the student body within the University. Recent LSBU graduates are voted in as student sabbatical officers to run its daily management and handle student concerns.

A modern University with great location in the heart of London. I am studying Events and Entertainment management which is a very practical course but still on an adacemic level. Which is great, since the event industry is a very hands on industry. Experienced tutors from the industri and opportunities to apply for great internships relevant to the industri.
