In 2014 Charles Darwin University celebrated 25 years of university education in the Northern Territory, a history that commenced with the opening of the Territory’s first and only university, the Northern Territory University, in 1989. Prior to the establishment of the Northern Territory University post-secondary education in the Territory had a history dating back to the late 1940s.

Casuarina campus is CDU's largest study location and the main hub for Higher Education, Vocational Education and Training (VET), and Research programs.
The campus is located in Darwin's northern suburbs about 15kms from Darwin's central business district and within 20kms to Palmerston city.
CDU’s Palmerston campus is a friendly, warm and welcoming place for students, staff and visitors. Our aim is to engage with the dynamic and growing community of Palmerston and the surrounding region in order to contribute to growth and development for future generations.
The campus delivers training in Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs and supports Katherine students studying Higher Education and Research.
