The mission of IMT Atlantique is to prepare the new generation to face future challenges, to deal with complex problems, to understand increasingly networked systems, but also and above all to be responsible agents for change in the world.

  • 1974 - Pierre Lelong, Secretary of State for PTT, decides to set up a second school of Telecommunications which will be located in Brest: ENST Bretagne.
  • 1977 - First intake of 31 students.
  • 1983 - First thesis prepared and defended at ENST Bretagne.
  • 1986 - The first masters courses at ENST Bretagne. Creation of the Rennes site.
  • 1991 - Claude Berrou, researcher in electronics and computer science, files the first patent on turbocodes.
  • 1997 - Creation of the Group of Telecommunication Universities.

Campus life

IMT Atlantique has 3 campuses in France (and 1 site in Toulouse). 

  • Brest Campus is located on the seaside (in Brittany) which makes it one of the nicest campus in France. Brest has over 24,000 students in a population of 200,000 people.
  • Nantes Campus is spread over 15 hectares on the banks of the Erdre River a few km north of the city centre. It is in the heart of Atlanpole, Nantes' technology hub, which is entirely devoted to cutting edge technologies and is also home to other higher learning facilities, research centres and business incubators. 
  • Rennes Campus is situated in the Rennes-Atalante technology hub. Rennes is the capital city of Brittany and is one the main students’ cities in France.

The campus was quite small, the class too, but that’s a nice experience. The subjects were good but sometimes it’s too many subjects instead of focused learning. The location of campus is in a nice neighborhood and residences are fine too.
