Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan is the major academic institution in Poznan and one of the top Polish universities. Its reputation is founded on tradition, the outstanding achievements of the faculty and the attractive curriculum offered to students.



The history of AMU goes back to the 16th century when in 1519 a Roman-Catholic Bishop Jan Lubrański founded the first of its kind Academy which back then boasted the status of a higher learning institution. Shortly after, another institution of higher learning was established in Poznań, namely – the Jesuit College (1573) and it continued the academic traditions of its predecessor.

Housing services

Poland offers choices for everyone's budget. You may stay at a big, exclusive hotel located in the city centre or in a smaller, yet delightfully situated one, a bit away from the city centre. One can also choose to stay at one of the city's camping sites or hostels located in the city centre. Credit cards can be used are accepted in most places.

Library services

The library has a large collection of printed materials and an extensive electronic online system. The printed collection includes about 3 million volumes of books and periodicals, as well as newspapers, maps and other documents.

Medical services

The European Health Insurance Card makes it easier for people from the European Union’s 27 Member States plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland to access health care services during temporary visits abroad. The card ensures that you will get the same access to public sector health care as nationals of the country you are visiting.

Sports facilities

Poznań has many sports and leisure centers offering plenty of opportunities to spend your free time. It is the site of over 40 parks and more than 100 green areas. Four large lakes (Malta, Kiekrz, Rusałka and Strzeszyn) are located within the city limits. Situated nearly in the city center Lake Malta is the site of one of the world’s most advanced regatta courses. 

Student clubs

Erasmus Student Network is a part of an international student organization cooperating in over 30 European countries. ESN supports the Erasmus international student exchange with the MENTOR Program. Each foreign student will be assigned to a Polish student who will:

The overall learning experience was solid, some of the professors were very knowledgeable and caring while others did not care about their students and treated them with contempt, sadly those who did not take their jobs seriously have hindered my education to a significant degree. I think it can be a much better university. I currently studying socilogy on Faculty of Socilogy (ex Faculty of Social Sciences). Academic personel is very professional but there are some examples of teachers who aren't really engaged in teaching students and act like they only want to do their job and go to home.
