Overview
The Social Sciences programme of the University of Amsterdam offers you advanced training in current social science theory and innovative methodologies in a rigorous and multidisciplinary social science research environment.
Due to an extensive focus on advanced quantitative and qualitative research skills, you will be able to independently carry out high quality scientific research after completion of this programme. The programmes prepare students for writing a PhD thesis and an academic career, as well as for a research oriented career outside academia.

The programme provides a good foundation for PhD study, as well as for work in public research organisations and non-academic research institutions in the private sector, like:
- PhD-student and/or Assistant Professor
- Research Assistant
- Political Assistant to city senator
- Policy Advisor at Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- Qualitative research consultant
- Analyst.

General requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in the fields of political science, sociology, anthropology or another closely related social sciences discipline, are invited to apply, provided that they meet all other entry requirements
- International degrees are evaluated on the basis of advice from professional diploma evaluators. The minimum level of the degree should be equivalent to three years of Dutch university education
- A solid basis in the field of social science studies of (the equivalent of) at least 30 ECTS credits earned during previous study
- A solid basis in qualitative and/or quantitative social sciences research methodology as demonstrated by the completion of (the equivalent of) at least 30 ECTS during previous study
- GPA of at least a B+/A /3.5 (American system), second class, upper division Honours degree (British system), B (ECTS system), 7.5 (Dutch system) or equivalent
- English language proficiency
