Overview
The Mathematics programme from the University of Amsterdam focuses on all major branches of advanced modern mathematics, pure and applied. From the four specialisations below you choose the one of your interest. Within each, several sub-fields and/or courses are indicated as well.
The curriculum is as follows:
- Five (or sometimes six) courses from your specialisation
- Master Seminar
- Elective courses
- Master's project
Career
Graduates of this Master's programme are well-equipped to pursue successful careers in academia, industry or public service. Mathematicians work in industry, banking, technology, consultancy, service organisations and many other segments of the labour market.

General requirements
- The following students may be admitted:
- students with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, awarded by a Dutch University;
- students with a Beta-Gamma Bachelor from UvA with Major Mathematics;
- students with a Bachelor's degree in Econometrics, awarded by a Dutch University, who have passed the courses Topology and Measure Theory, and three from the five courses Ordinary Differential Equations, Markov Chains, Bayesian Statistics, Functional Analysis, Partial Differential Equations, all from the Bachelor Mathematics UvA.
- The Admissions Board may also grant admission when concluding that the previous education of the candidate is equivalent to the provisions from (1) and (3).
