The Public Health - Community Health Education programme at California State University Long Beach strives to afford excellence in teaching, conduct research and provide service to local, regional, national, and international populations living within the surrounding communities while making a significant contribution towards increasing health equity for underserved populations.

Learning Objectives

Achieve excellence in teaching and learning to bolster competency in the fields of health education and public health in a multiethnic and urban environment to develop diverse professionals and leaders.

Foster research and intervention programmes that tend to the health needs of underserved populations in our community.

Engage in service activities across various sectors of public health practice, addressing the needs of the profession, university, and the community.

General requirements

Each applicant must request a copy of official transcript(s) of all work be sent to the Office of Enrollment Services. Graduates of CSULB will not need to submit transcripts.

A bachelor’s degree with a major in health education/public health or a related discipline such as psychology, sociology, social work, biomedical engineering, etc., or a clinical major. You may apply before your degree is conferred, but your degree must be completed by the beginning of the semester you are planning to enroll.

An overall undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.

Three letters of recommendation written by a professional and/or academic individual with knowledge of the candidate’s potential for graduate education.

A separate personal statement illustrating your understanding of the field of public health and commitment to public health.

Resume/CV-At least one year’s full-time (or equivalent) paid or volunteer experience in public health or a closely related health role.
