Research and thesis opportunities are at present available in the fields of astrophysics and cosmology, atmospheric and ocean optics, complexity, condensed matter physics, elementary particle theory, plasma physics. In addition to the general requirements for graduate degrees, the Physics Department at University of Miami makes the following specific requirements.

Physics is an integral scientific component of the liberal arts environment and contributes to the scholarly activities of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami in a fundamental manner. GRE admission requirements GRE® The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. It contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.

TOEFL admission requirements TOEFL® IBT The TOEFL iBT® is given online through the internet at designated testing site. The test measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. General requirements

  • Consideration is given to applicants who have a B.S. degree in physics (or related field) with a minimum undergraduate GPA of B. 
  • The general GRE is required and subject GRE is recommended. 
  • Applicants from non-English-speaking countries must demonstrate proficiency in English via the TOEFL or IELTS test, even if they have previously taken courses in the US. 
  • There is not minimum GRE score for admission (although a quantitative score higher than 700 is recommended)
