The Master in Mathematics degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago with concentration in Pure Mathematics is designed for students with a strong mathematical background who intend to continue for a PhD degree. While earning the MS degree, students are encouraged to complete one or more of the basic 500-level course sequences which lead to a written preliminary examination.
Study and research is available in the general areas of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, probability and statistics, mathematical computer science, and the teaching of mathematics.
