Graduate students are admitted from diverse undergraduate backgrounds, thus enriching the cross-disciplinary spirit of the program.

The Environmental Engineering program at Lehigh University is flexible, accommodating full- and part-time students from a variety of fields, and offers a master's degree with or without a thesis, in addition to a Ph.D.

Graduate students conduct research with professors — and with industry collaborators — from many disciplines and across universities and national labs. The research thrusts of the Environmental Engineering program are directed toward creating new knowledge and finding new technologies to address environmental problems facing society.

Excellent laboratory facilities that are equipped with the latest in analytical instruments and experimental apparata;

Strong interaction with industry, including successful alumni;

Interdisciplinary research projects in aquatic transport of toxins and bacteria, value-added use of waste materials, protection of watersheds, characterization of nanoscale particles, subsurface soil characterization, development of novel adsorbents and membrane processes, product recovery, and others.

General requirements

Applicants should have earned a bachelor’s degree or a degree in technology at a recognized college, university or technical institution.

An average GRE (Graduate Record Examination) score of 75th percentile in the Quantitative Area. The GRE exam is mandatory for most programs in the ISE Department. We do not require the GRE subject test. Test results are valid for five years.

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required for all applicants whose native language is not English. If the applicant received a degree in the United States, this test is waived. TOEFL test scores are valid for two years from the date the test was taken.
