Implant Dentistry UCL

Overview

Combining academic study, hands-on training and supervised clinical experience, the Implant Dentistry MSc at UCL equips you to assess, plan, place, restore and maintain straightforward dental implant cases. You will develop the confidence and competence to integrate implant dentistry into contemporary clinical practice.

Key Facts

Dental implants have become an increasingly important treatment option for replacing missing teeth, offering predictable functional and aesthetic outcomes while preserving adjacent teeth and supporting long-term oral health. As patient demand for implant treatment continues to grow, dentists require the knowledge and clinical skills to assess, plan, restore and maintain implant-supported rehabilitations safely and effectively.

This three-year MSc in Implant Dentistry provides a structured pathway for developing competence in contemporary implant dentistry. You study the biological, surgical, restorative and maintenance aspects of implant treatment, enabling you to assess patients comprehensively, identify low- and high-risk cases, and develop evidence-based treatment plans. You learn to carry out the surgical placement and restoration of straightforward implant cases, formulate maintenance protocols tailored to individual patient risk profiles, and recognise and manage complications associated with implant treatment.

A distinctive feature of the course is its strong emphasis on integrating academic learning with clinical practice. You have the opportunity to treat your own patients within UCL’s specialist clinical facilities under expert supervision, allowing you to apply newly acquired knowledge and skills directly to patient care. Teaching combines seminars, hands-on practical workshops, case-based discussions, treatment planning exercises, live surgical demonstrations and digital learning resources to support progressive clinical development.
