Overview
The Medical and Health Professions Education programme offered by Bangor University combines high quality online interactive workshops with self-directed study, supported by tutorials, individualised feedback on activities and assignments and one-to-one meetings.
The programme uses a multi-disciplinary, research-informed approach to teach the modules and requires students to participate in live online sessions and online discussions and activities in their own time.
The programme will enable students to develop their skills, knowledge, and behaviours to meet the following aims:
- To provide a framework in which educators and support staff can critically review and develop theoretical perspectives and practical skills in facilitating their learners’ experience.
- To support participants in systematically and creatively analysing the complexities of medical and health professions’ education; using techniques which build on their own experience; involve active and reflective learning and ensure the integration of contemporary theory and practice.
- To help prepare healthcare professionals for education leadership positions and collaborative interprofessional educational practice.
- To enable students to gain practical experience of course design, delivery, and evaluation.
- To support and prepare students to develop their skills and interest in research in medical and health professions’ education practice and pedagogy.
Careers
Graduates from this course will have acquired a broad and relevant set of subject specific and transferable skills with a focus on reflection, critical analysis and academic writing achieved through engagement in discussions and a range of written media and formats.
The programme provides graduates with enhanced employability skills and the ability to undertake a variety of educational roles in medical and health professions’ education. Exit points at each of the three years provides students with the choice to exit with a PGCert, PGDip or Masters’ level qualification.
Masters’ students can choose to conduct a research project that may lead to scientific publications or a work-based professional portfolio, both of which will provide further enhancement for their careers.
Completion of the PGCert may enable eligible graduates to independently pay to complete an application for HEA Fellowship directly with AdvanceHE.
