Description
The Supporting Young Adult Student Carers Bursary is available to full-time UK undergraduate and taught postgraduate students who are unpaid primary carers for a family member, partner or friend with a physical or sensory disability, learning disability, medical condition, mental health condition, or addiction. The bursary is funded through Bangor University's Hardship Fund and is awarded annually to eligible students who continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
Benefits
The bursary provides £1,000 per academic year to help students with the additional costs associated with balancing study and caring responsibilities.
Eligibility
- Must be a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught student.
- Must be eligible for Home (UK) tuition fee status.
- Must have been under 25 years of age when the course started.
- Must be an unpaid primary carer for a family member, partner or friend with an illness, disability, mental health condition or addiction.
- Applicants who receive a salary for caring duties or receive Carer's Allowance are not eligible.

Application deadline
Applicants must submit evidence of their unpaid caring responsibilities after completing registration for the academic year. Evidence may include proof of previous Carer's Allowance eligibility before starting the course or a supporting letter from a teacher, personal tutor, GP, medical professional, carers' support group, or support worker confirming the applicant's caring responsibilities. Students must reapply each academic year with updated evidence.
