Overview
Contemporary Cinema and Theatre from University of Poitiers, digital technologies have profoundly transformed the ways in which films and live performances are conceived, produced, exhibited, discovered, and accessed.
Key facts
It is not uncommon today to see a filmmaker directing plays or a playwright accompanying their stage productions with video work and image projections. Theater, cinema, and audiovisual media are becoming increasingly hybrid, leading to the use of new tools, the acquisition of new skills, and the adoption of new artistic and cultural practices. The poetic, aesthetic, theoretical, and anthropological issues inherent in this blending of forms and practices are central to the research conducted in Performing Arts at the FoReLLis Laboratory of the University of Poitiers. They directly inform the courses taught within the Master's program.
These issues are also central to the concerns of cultural institutions and associations (museums, media libraries, national theaters, drama centers, art-house cinemas, festivals) that produce, distribute, and promote films and live performances. These organizations need staff with knowledge of the most contemporary forms of the performing arts.
