Key Features
The Economics, Data and Policy (1 year) program from Central European University (CEU) prepares the students for a rigorous PhD in Economics or Finance, or a public or private sector job focusing on research and data analysis. The “Global Economic Policy” track gives students a broader view of economics and thus prepares them for public or private sector jobs related to economic policy and also for PhD’s in related fields like Development Economics, Public Policy, Labor Economics, and Political Science.
Learning outcomes
The program is intended to provide students with the skills required of a 21st century economist and prepare them for a broad range of careers from government and research to the private sector.
Upon completion of the program, all students are expected to possess the following skills:
- Solid analytical foundations in microeconomics and macroeconomics
- Command of basic statistical (data science) concepts and software needed to analyze economic data
- Some familiarity with the economic policy process and ability to debate economic policy issues
- The ability to communicate effectively in writing and via presentations

- A 500-word essay(motivational letter) introducing your academic/professional background and explaining how further studies at CEU would help you in achieving your future career goals. If you are considering the “Research (pre-PhD)” track, please outline a research topic you would be interested in working on.
- There is no mandatory mathematics test required for admission but especially if you are considering the “Research (pre-PhD)” track, you are encouraged to complete an online Mathematics Exam administered by CEU or submit a GRE Quantitive Score.
