Overview

The Psychology program at Lehigh University will provide students with a broad-based understanding of such topics as cognitive psychology; developmental psychology; social cognition; statistics and research methodology, among others. Additionally, all students can expect to be engaged in research during their time in the program.

Highlights

Small is beautiful. The program is intentionally small, ensuring a favorable faculty-student ratio, close faculty-student collaboration, and a congenial atmosphere. We plan to expand from our current enrollment of 17 to about 20 students at full capacity.

State-of-the-art facilities. Well-equipped psychological laboratories provide an excellent setting for research.

The department has ample facilities for research in each of our three specialization areas. Lehigh has a sophisticated network system and excellent on-line library and informational support.

The department also has its own computer facilities, providing statistical, experimental, and general purpose software.

Programme Structure

The Department of Psychology offers a distinctive, research-intensive graduate program with specializations in cognitive, developmental and social psychology.

The department accepts mainly Ph.D. students, who obtain a master’s degree in the process of working for the doctorate. However, well-qualified students may also be accepted for a Master of Science degree.

General requirements

A graduate of an accredited college or university may be considered for admission to graduate study. The decision to admit a student rests with the applicant’s major department and stands for one year following the first semester for which admission was offered.

Applicants should consult their respective departments or their dean's office. In order to be considered for admission as a regular graduate student, the applicant must satisfy at least one of the following conditions: have an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 out of 4.00 (note: College of Education GPA minimum is 3.0); have an average of at least 3.00 for the last two semesters of undergraduate study; have a graduate grade point average of at least 3.00 for a minimum of twelve credit hours of graduate work completed at other institutions; or have successfully satisfied the probationary conditions as an associate graduate student
