General requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree with a grade-point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
  • Three letters of recommendation required, one of which much be from Mines faculty member that has agreed to serve as your thesis advisor. If the applicant’s Bachelor’s degree is from our department, only the letter from the thesis advisor is required.
  • GRE scores are required for all applicants from outside of Mines. Applicants who have graduated from Mines within the past five years are not required to submit GRE scores. Mines accepts GRE scores from tests taken within five years of the date of entry.
  • Statement of purpose letter: present your academic, professional, and personal goals and describe how you will contribute to our graduate program.
