Overview
It is a matter that affects everyone within our built environment. Moreover, it is an extremely current topic in our society. After all, we all want structures to be safe, also in the event of earthquakes, for example.
Topics related to the field of Architecture, Building And Planning - Mastertrack Structural Engineering and Design from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) include:
- Sustainable use of materials: construction consumes a large portion of our resources. How can we change this?
- Digitization: housing shortages are increasing. So are labor shortages. Digitization of the related processes, from design and optimization to production and execution, leads to a better built environment.
- Reuse of existing and aging buildings and infrastructure: how will they remain usable with potential structural interventions without excessive investments and disruptive interventions, like closures?
Careers
Most of our graduate students enter professional practice as structural engineers/designers or project leaders. In this case, you will end up at (independent) engineering firms or engineering departments of (specialized) construction companies. You can also work as a reviewing structural engineer for municipalities, Prorail, or Rijkswaterstaat. Or work at product developers, material suppliers and construction software and building digitization companies.
Programme Structure
Courses include:
Design projects (large span structures as well as high rise buildings), and
Research projects (experimental research as well as numerical research).
