Overview
In the Bioinformatics and System Biology programme at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam you will have the opportunity to learn essential skills, depending on your background. For example, if you have a Bachelor’s in Biology, you will learn programming. If your background is in Computer Science, you will learn Biology and Mathematics. Mathematics students will follow biology and programming courses.
Programme Overview
- A course package of up to 30 ECTS will be compiled for you. You must obtain these points within one academic year. Successful completion of the pre-Master’s, you will be able to enrol in the Bioinformatics and Systems Biology Master’s programme.

General requirements
- HBO studentes - 210 EC
- University students - 150 EC note that, apart from the rules above, other admission criteria / requirements that are not EC related are still applicable and must be met to be considered for admission into the Premaster programme.
- To enter the pre-master's Programme, an English Language Test is required. VU Amsterdam requires international students and students with a HBO degree to pass an English language proficiency test.
