Overview
At the Vocal Performance - Classical Voice and Vocal Pedagogy MM/Adv. Cert from New York University you’ll also have the opportunity to perform in fully staged productions under the guidance of professionals with backgrounds in opera companies and theatre both in and out of New York City.
You’ll graduate with a knowledge of healthy vocal technique that will prepare you well for a career in any area of voice performance. Your specialized course work will include classes in opera performance, classical song repertoire, acting, and dance as well as private voice instruction with leading New York City vocalists working in opera, recital, and concert singing. While you hone your vocal skills, you’ll also gain a deep understanding of vocal pedagogy theory and practice, including how to build a vocal repertoire for teaching.
Career Preparation
As your terminal degree experience, you will perform a graduate recital, which should demonstrate a technical foundation in vocal production that will allow your voice to evolve efficiently and healthily throughout your career Additionally, you must demonstrate a respect for the value of the text – the words that are sung as well as the sounds that are made. Your training in this dual degree will help you gain the level of performance excellence you need as a professional vocal performer.
