Whether it is wealth inequalities, migration, sexual diversity or the future of work you’re interested in, our programme will train you to ask fundamental questions, search for answers and understand how people, social movements, institutions and governments address them. Courses will address issues from a great variety of intellectual and methodological traditions. This will open up new and exciting ways to think about the issues you care about.
Careers
After graduating from the Sociology programme of the University of Amsterdam you will have a broad range of skills that easily translate into a multitude of careers. The programme gives students a good basis to pursue their studies at the PhD level. Students with an excellent academic record will be encouraged to complete their Master's studies with the development of a proposal for PhD study at the University of Amsterdam.

General requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Sociology or in another closely related social sciences discipline (including economics and psychology) are invited to apply, provided they meet all other entry requirements.
- International degrees are evaluated on the basis of advice from professional diploma evaluators. The minimum level of the degree should be equivalent to a Dutch academic Bachelor's degree.
- All applicants are expected to have a solid basis in the field of sociological theory and social sciences research methodology, evenly distributed across an equivalent of at least 60 ECTS credits. Holders of a Dutch academic Bachelor's degree in Sociology are considered to meet this requirement.
- English language proficiency.
