Overview
On the Physician Assistants at Augusta University you’ll be medically trained to practice autonomously or as a part of a healthcare team, providing high-quality healthcare in various environments.
Physician assistants are certified as medical generalists with a foundation in primary care, but they can also practice in a number of specialty areas, which means they enjoy the flexibility to adapt to changes in the workplace and the community.
Key facts
- During the didactic phase of the program, physician assistant students will remain at the Augusta University Campus. During the second year, students will experience clinical rotations across Georgia and the Southeast.
- After successfully completing the program, graduates are eligible to take the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE).
- As one of three primary care providers (PAs, nurse practitioners and physicians), students in the physician assistant program will receive training in general medicine as well as a variety of specialties.

General requirements
- GPA: Overall GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) on all previous college work, with a minimum average of 3.0 on math and science courses.
- Degree Requirement: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
- Transcripts: Official transcripts are required from all universities and colleges ever attended. Unofficial transcripts from US colleges and universities can be used in the admissions review process in lieu of official transcripts for this program.
- Standardized Test Requirements: Completion of either the GRE or the PA-CAT exam and the CASPer test.
- Letters of Recommendation: Recommendations from three individuals, with at least one from a certified PA, must be submitted through the application portal.
- Hands-On Experience: A minimum of 100 hours shadowing a physician assistant in 3 different clinical settings and 100+ hours of health care experience is required.
