Comparative Cultural Analysis (Arts and Culture) University of Amsterdam

Overview

The Comparative Cultural Analysis (Arts and Culture) programme of the University of Amsterdam is dedicated to critical exploration of a wide variety of cultural phenomena from an explicitly theoretical and interdisciplinary perspective. Works of art and literature, cinema and new media, as well as popular culture are examined in relation to a range contemporary socio-political phenomena.

Comparative Cultural Analysis engages with a variety of contemporary critical discourses, such as philosophy, environmental humanities, posthumanism, decolonial studies, queer studies, comparative literature and media studies. The programme proposes to explore the many possible dialogues between cultural phenomena and critical theory. In particular, Comparative Cultural Analysis is focused on the socio-political significance of theoretical and interdisciplinairy study.

Careers

After completing this programme students will have acquired a solid understanding of cultural theory and valuable analytical skills. Depending on their expertise, graduates often find employment in the cultural or non-profit sector, for example as writer, editor, curator, organizer or continue their academic career as PhD researcher.
