Overview
The Quant. Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing curriculum, taught at Goethe University Frankfurt entirely in English, is identical to that of the first two years of the Ph.D. programs. This ensures that students can earn their Ph.D. degree within a program designed according to international best practices, while also integrating their M.Sc. degree.
The MSQ program provides a highly academic, research-oriented education in concepts and methods of economic and quantitative theory, as well as in the application of these concepts and methods to empirical economic research. Students are to be enabled to formulate and address interesting and substantial research questions independently, taking into account the current state of leading economic research. The MSQ comprises four specializations:
- The Quantitative Accounting study program places a special emphasis on accounting and management;
- in the study program Quantitative Economics focusing on development economics and international economics, macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics;
- in the study program Quantitative Finance, focusing on Asset Pricing and Corporate Finance;
- in the field of study Quantitative Marketing on Marketing.
Building upon foundational modules in the first year that impart essential methods of modern economic research, the MSQ offers students the option, starting in their second year, to prepare for a doctoral dissertation at GSEFM by successfully completing the qualifying examinations of their chosen Ph.D. program. A dissertation at GSEFM is designed to enable students to compete successfully with graduates of the world's leading Ph.D. programs for academic and other research-oriented positions.
Career
For those students completing their studies at GSEFM with an M.Sc. degree, the MSQ allows them to qualify for demanding, quantitatively oriented professional roles in their second year. This is facilitated by the fact that the second year includes modules covering a broad spectrum of current economic research topics and the development of a substantial independent research master's thesis. This enables students to apply or, if necessary, further develop the quantitative methods relevant for adequately addressing current economic issues, to develop sophisticated theoretical and/or empirical findings, and to explain the significance of their findings in a meaningful and understandable way.
