Overview
In this specialisation, you will explore how organisations can navigate the complex and evolving realities of work, today and in the future. You will develop the knowledge and skills to lead people and organisations taking account of the real challenges HR professionals face: attracting and retaining talent in a competitive labour market, balancing performance with well-being, and guiding transformation in response to digitalisation, AI, and broader societal demands for sustainability and inclusion.
Rather than offering one fixed model or approach, this specialisation challenges you to critically engage with multiple perspectives and stakeholders, from employees and managers to policymakers and society at large. Together, we will explore how HR can create value for all these actors, while addressing tensions and trade-offs that naturally emerge in contemporary organisations.
You will work on challenges such as:
- Attracting, developing and retaining employees in a complex labour market shaped by digitalisation and AI.
- Designing fair and inclusive practices that respect ethics and dignity while supporting both individual and organisational goals.
- Leading and supporting people, teams and organisations through processes of continuous change and uncertainty.
Future career opportunities
In this specialisation, you will develop leadership skills for navigating current and future Human Resource (HR) challenges in the areas of Strategic HR Management, Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI), and the Changing Society. These skills will equip you to address paradoxical questions from various stakeholder groups within organisations and their broader environment. You will explore key topics such as the Employee Journey in light of Digitalisation, Ethics and Dignity, and Change, while developing essential skills to translate and apply research insights into informed HR decisions. This specialisation equips you with the necessary knowledge and skills to become a professional HR leader, (line) manager and/or HR advisor.
Research
To indicate the type of research in this specialisation, a few examples:
- How do HR interventions affect employee experiences (i.e., their well-being and performance) and organisational outcomes?
- How do organisational actors engage with the institutionalised norms that affect the career sustainability of (part-time) workers?
- What is the impact of introducing new technology (i.e., AI, robots) on HR roles, work design, required skills and employee outcomes?
- How can small and medium sized enterprises (SME; e.g., entrepreneurs) navigate the tensions of a tight and diverse labour market?
