Overview
You will learn to think beyond current trends and fashions in the young and rapidly-developing field of social innovation, developing critical academic perspectives informed by cutting-edge research in management, psychology, sociology, economics and anthropology.
Building on this foundation, you will learn how to design, launch and scale successful entrepreneurial ventures with social goals. Core courses develop your managerial capabilities and leadership skills, preparing you to lead teams and organisations effectively.
Real-world consulting and social innovation design projects build your professional experience and entrepreneurial skills, with opportunities to begin developing your own social enterprise during your year at LSE.
Each student has the opportunity to undertake an international field trip, conducting research with an NGO or company in a developing country and gaining first-hand experience of the diverse challenges faced by communities worldwide.
Previous trips have included projects ranging from sustainable home farming and childcare initiatives in Cape Town to removing cyanide from water sources in rural Bangladesh. These experiences are central to the degree and are guided by expert partners deeply embedded in local communities. You will learn to critically analyse the root causes of social issues within their social, economic and political contexts, and to design effective solutions grounded in a clear understanding of real-world needs.
You will graduate with lifelong critical skills and a strong platform for developing and leading socially-focused ventures.
