LSE's MSc Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SIE) programme blends academic rigour with real-world experience, equipping you to challenge traditional thinking and design impactful solutions to social and environmental challenges.

Programme highlights

Apply your learning in practice through a year-long group project with a real organisation, including international fieldwork
Choose how you complete the programme, with either a traditional research dissertation or an applied Capstone project - designing a social enterprise or consulting for an organisation
Develop entrepreneurial skills through access to LSE Generate and the 100x Impact Accelerator
Take two compulsory core courses in social innovation and organisational management, providing the theoretical and analytical foundation for the degree
Tailor the programme with elective courses (to the value of one unit)

Programme Structure

This programme is designed around:

A multi-term compulsory core course in social entrepreneurship and innovation, providing the theoretical and analytical foundation for the degree, as well as additional core courses covering broader management topics such as managerial economics, organisational behaviour and marketing

A year-long applied group project, where you’ll work with a real organisation on a social impact challenge

Two elective courses, allowing you to tailor the programme to your interests and career goals

A series of relevant, programme-exclusive events run across the year, concluding with a summer bootcamp of events run in conjunction with LSE Generate, the School’s entrepreneurial hub.

A final independent project, where you can choose between a research dissertation, a Capstone project designing a social enterprise, or a Capstone project with an organisation

Audience

This programme is designed for students from a wide range of academic backgrounds who are interested in social innovation, entrepreneurship and social impact.

It is best suited to applicants with around two or more years of professional experience, for example in social enterprises, non-profit organisations, the public sector, or corporate social responsibility and sustainability roles.

General requirements

Undergraduate degree at 2:1 level or above, or international equivalent. Applicants from any academic background are welcomed.
A GMAT or GRE score is not required, but a strong result from either of these tests may benefit applicants.

Work experience

Students admitted to the programme normally have two or more years' relevant work experience. However, applicants with less experience (for example an internship) are also welcome to apply. Please detail any relevant experience in your application.

Selection for any funding opportunity is based on receipt of an application for a place – including all ancillary documents, before the funding deadline.
