About

We are committed to maintaining the quality and distinction of the program that was exemplified by our recognition as a Program of Merit by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. Opportunities are available for students to gain exposure to specialized expertise in gerontological theory, research, practice, social policy issues, and the process of aging in a global and culturally diverse society. This expertise prepares students for a wide range of careers in the field of aging, including direct community and social services, program administration, mental health practice, government services, higher education, long-term care,  health and wellness, and entrepreneurship.

    The program is organized in a cohort fashion, with all students progressing throught the courses together and completing the master’s degree in 18 months. Students are never actively taking more than two courses at once.

Academic Requirements

  • This programme accepts GRE® scores, however, has not provided a recommended or minimum required score range.

    The GRE® General Test is a widely administered admissions test that measures the skills needed in today's graduate and business school programs worldwide. The GRE® General Test contains three sections - Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing. Three scores are reported: a Verbal Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, a Quantitative Reasoning score on a 130 - 170 score scale in one-point increments, and an Analytical Writing score on a 0 - 6 score scale in half-point increments.

  • Apply to The Graduate School by submitting an online application or by completing a paper application. Application requires a $30 non-refundable fee. 
  • Official transcripts should be mailed.
  • If you received your undergraduate degree from EIU, we will be able to request your transcript from the Records Office.
  • Some departments require a test score for admission. If the department requires a test score, have the score sent directly to The Graduate School (GMA, GRE).
  • All graduate programs require applicants to submit additional application materials through MyEIU. Additional materials may include a portfolio, letters of recommendation, writing samples, etc.
