Key facts
The study programme of Master's track International Trade and Investment Law is devoted to the study of the two branches of International Economic Law: International Trade Law and International Investment Law. The first semester focuses on learning to operate within the core principles and institutions of these disciplines.
Students begin by studying the principles and foundations of public international law and of international economic law (12 EC). We proceed with compulsory courses covering the cardinal rules in 2 key areas of international economic law: international trade law (6 EC) and international investment law (6 EC). In the second semester, you specialise in either trade law or investment law (24 EC). Students may complete their credits by following both specialisations or by choosing to follow 2 free electives. The course concludes with the submission of a Master's thesis, presented to examiners in a specially convened session.Programme Structure

General requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in law from a research university (Dutch: WO).
- A Bachelor’s degree in the law track of PPLE (Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics) from the University of Amsterdam. If you did not complete the law track, then you will need to have obtained at least 45 ECTS of law courses as part of your completed PPLE programme.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences from any University College in the Netherlands, including at least 45 ECTS of law courses as part of this completed programme.
- A Bachelor’s degree comparable to a Dutch Bachelor’s degree in European Studies or International Relations, including at least 45 ECTS of law courses as part of this completed programme.
- A Bachelor’s degree from a research university (Dutch: WO) in another discipline, provided that at least 60 ECTS of law courses were obtained as part of this completed programme.
